Past Camp Information

Some of these camps may be to the camps we are offering this year.

Camp

A group picture from one of our four 2009 camp sessions.

Each summer, Team Titanium holds a series of week-long summer camps for students from around the area who have completed 4th-8th grades. Our team members, along with a few mentors, provide all the manpower needed to hold these camps. The camps concentrate on science, engineering, FLL robotics, and VEX robotics.

Team Titanium holds these camps to help inspire students, and encourage them become excited about the possibilities for their future in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

In 2008, we started out with only two camp sessions and a total of 70 students participating as campers.

In 2009, our camps were expanded to four sessions, which made a second week necessary. By doubling the number of camps we held, we increased the number of students attending the camps to over 90!

The following are descriptors for all of our past camps:

  • MARS League Vex Robotics - Design and build Mid-sized Advanced Robotics Summer League (MARS League) robots for a new game challenge using VEX robotics kits, then compete with other teams in a tournament format. A great experience for students finishing 6th, 7th or 8th grade who are interested in joining a high school robotics team, or just interested in robotics!

  • 2010 FLL NXT Camp - This Rookie Robotics Camp in cooperation with KCFIRST is for students who have finished 3rd -7th grade. Each day of camp we will work on different LEGO Mindstorms NXT programming skills. Students need not have any prior programming or design experience. Robots and materials are provided. This is an ideal camp for students who will be competing in the FLL (First Lego League) in the fall, or those just interested in robots.
  • 2010 FLL NXT Camp - This Veteran Robotics Camp in cooperation with KCFIRST is for students who have prior experience with robotics either from a rookie camp, as part of an ASPIRE team during the school year, or as a member of a FLL team. Each day of camp we will work on different LEGO Mindstorms programming skills. Skills will include but are not limited to sensor use, loops, switches, obstacle course challenges and Nanoquest table challenge.
  • Go For It! - A science and engineering camp for students finishing 4th or 5th grade. This camp is fast-paced, with many hands-on experiences, including engineering projects and science activities. We prove that science is really FUN!

  • Go For MORE! - A science and engineering camp for students finishing 5th or 6th grade. This camp is more of an in-depth experience - full of engineering projects, and science activities. Go For MORE! is for 5th & 6th graders who participated in the Go For It! camp last summer and asked for MORE, or for 6th graders who are attending our camps for the first time.

scicamp2

A line of Rube Goldberg machines that were supposed to connect to each other.

  • Lego Robotics- An introduction to robots using Lego Mindstorms for students finishing 4th, 5th or 6th grade. This is an ideal camp for students who will be competing in the FLL (FIRST Lego League) in the fall through the district A.S.P.I.R.E. program, or those just interested in robots. The week culminates in a mini-tournament.

legocamp

Campers brainstorming on how to take on the challenge.

  • Robotics Camp - Students design and build robots for a specific game challenge using VEX robotics kits, then compete with other teams in a robot tournament. This camp is a great introduction for students finishing 6th, 7th or 8th grade who are interested in joining a high school robotics team, or also just interested in robotics!

Parental Praise

We have received many bits of praise from parents in response to our camps. Here is just a selection of the praise that has been sent to us:

My son Max is having a wonderful time. He is so excited to go to class everyday. This Science Camp is a great idea. He can't stop talking about his day when he gets home."

- Julie, mother of Max

My 10 year old daughter came home each day soooo excited about the day, and eager to go back. When Friday came around, she was very disappointed to have to quit. She has informed me that she will be going back next year...and also that she wants to be an aeronautical engineer and design airplanes. She even has read up on all it requires to be one...and that didn't intimidate her in the slightest. I am so thrilled to see her so focused on something like this. You all must have done one fabulous job! Please thank your staff for being so wonderful for me!"

- Dee, mother of Jessica

I just wanted to send you a quick note and tell you how much my son Connor is enjoying your Robotics camp. He talks our ear off at the dinner table every night about what he has learned. He came home after the Tuesday session and told us that if he doesn’t grow up to play professional soccer, he’s definitely going to be an Engineer. (We’re happy he has a goal to fall back on). I’m definitely impressed by the amount of preparation, and thought that went into this camp. Even the snacks are a learning activity! He is already asking to do it next year. I hope he is being as cooperative and he says he is.”

- Charlene, mother of Connor

I can tell a lot of work went into it and Jaret was awe inspired. For many years we’ve been wondering where his niche’ may be. Music seems to be one of them. But after this week, he now has a goal for after high school. I’m convinced that you will see more of him in the future. (hopefully that’ll be a good thing – ha!) He’s already making plans on what he’ll take in school to be able to get into college with this degree and make a future of it."

- Michelle, mother of Jaret
