FIRST Lego League is a competition for grades 4-8. FLL uses NXT and EV3 robots to tackle a different challenge each year. Students have to program and build a small robot, using only Legos, to achieve as many tasks as they can. Each year is a different theme, this year was Hydrodynamics.
Students not only have to program a bot, they also research and create a presentation; as well as share their understanding of FIRST's Core Values. At regionals, students present a problem they found, correlating with the game, and how they plan on fixing it. Students are learning, discovering, and working together to be
as successful as possible.
FIRST Lego League introduces younger students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. FLL teams, guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, discover exciting career possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society.
Elementary and middle-school students get to:
Design, build, test and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology
Apply real-world math and science concepts
Research challenges facing today’s scientists
Learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills
Participate in tournaments and celebrations
